Congresswoman Adams: “I will not back down until Loretta Lynch is confirmed”

Congresswoman Adams Spoke on the House Floor Earlier This Week on the Need to Confirm Loretta Lynch - Watch here

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today joined Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) and other Democratic Members of Congress to insist on an immediate vote on the confirmation of Loretta Lynch. Loretta Lynch is a Greensboro native and former Attorney General for the Eastern District of New York.

Below are Congresswoman Adams' remarks as prepared for delivery:

"Loretta Lynch is from my hometown of Greensboro and she's an accomplished North Carolinian who is more than capable of being our next U.S. Attorney General. Her confirmation is personal for me as an African American woman and as the representative of the people of the 12th District of North Carolina.

"Ms. Lynch is a graduate of Harvard Law and her resume is impeccable!

"As an Attorney General for the Eastern District of New York, Loretta Lynch oversees federal criminal and civil investigations. She has proven to be fair and impartial – and has taken on many complex cases in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island.

"Her entire career, she has fought crimes like public corruption, and terrorism. And there is no doubt, that she will excel in the U.S. Attorney General role.

"There is no just cause for the partisan games Senate Republicans are playing – and they are doing everything in their power to continue to delay this vote.

"Ms. Lynch has waited longer than any Attorney General who has come before her and if not confirmed by Monday – she will have waited longer than the last 7 Attorney Generals combined!

"What's happening to Ms. Lynch is completely unfair. And I question the motives. Why has Loretta Lynch had to face so much scrutiny? Surely, there is no substantive reason behind this delay.

"Earlier this week, I spoke on the House floor about the need to confirm Lynch; today I stand before you in unison with my colleagues to say it again. Confirm Loretta Lynch! I'm not backing down until she is confirmed!

"Now, more than ever we need a well-positioned, fair Attorney General in place. My colleagues, it's time to do the right thing. Confirm Loretta Lynch!"
