Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, PhD Announces 12th District Winner of Congressional App Challenge

December 14, 2023

Charlotte (December 14, 2023) – Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) announced the winner of the Congressional App Challenge, the most prestigious prize for middle and high school students in computer science. The winning app, PolicyPro, was created by Hickory Ridge High School 11th grader Srinithi Mohan of Harrisburg and team member Indu Gadiraju of South Iredell High School in Statesville.

PolicyPro is designed to simplify the often lengthy and complex privacy policies that users encounter when signing up for online services or various applications. The app’s main goal is to provide users with a clear and concise summary of the key information within privacy policies, making it easier for them to understand how their personal data is handled by the services they use.

“I continue to be amazed by the talent of the young people in our district. PolicyPro is a needed and timely application that will help protect Americans online. Congratulations to Srinithi on this much-deserved achievement,” said Congresswoman Adams.

“I am honored to be chosen as one of the winners of the Congressional App Challenge. It has been an incredible experience to use my passion for programming towards a noteworthy cause and ensure that the interests of citizens are protected in the fast-paced, modern world. Winning this award inspires me to continue innovating solutions that make a positive impact on people's lives. Thank you so much for this opportunity!” Mohan said.

About PolicyPro

PolicyPro is a mobile app aimed at promoting awareness of data privacy policies and agreements, reducing the risks of data breaches. Policy Pro is designed to simplify the often lengthy and complex privacy policies that users encounter when signing up for online services or various applications. The app’s main goal is to provide users with a clear and concise summary of the key information within privacy policies, making it easier for them to understand how their personal data is handled by the services they use. Users can simply attach a service’s privacy policy to the summarizer, and the app will generate a concise, understandable summary that explains the key points that the user should be aware of before consenting. Then, the user can deliberately decide whether or not they want to agree to the terms and conditions. This allows the user to understand what they are agreeing to without having to tediously read thousands of words. In addition, our app provides real-time updates when new policy acts or laws related to data privacy are made. Our app lists the key changes in a summarized format so that the user is always aware of how their personal data use is changing. In summary, in the modern Age of Big Data, our app allows you to have control over what you are agreeing to, how your privacy is affected, and how your data is being handled in a dynamic environment.
