Congresswoman Alma S. Adams Releases Statement Following “Lighting the Way" National Speak Out

July 14, 2016

Washington, DC — Today the Congressional Black Caucus and House Democrats joined together to hold a national speak out to address gun violence and community policing in America.

As Congress prepares for its six-week recess, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (D-NC) released the following statement:

“From the escalating gun violence in Chicago, the mass murders in Dallas and Orlando, to the police shootings in Baton Rouge, Minneapolis and even in my home state of North Carolina—America has a deadly problem. I am tired of reading the headlines saying ‘another active shooter’ or names like Kevin Rodas, shot in a crossfire and Jonathan Ferrell, victim of a police shooting. Americans have entrusted us with their votes to protect them. Ninety percent of Americans are in favor of gun safety reform. That is why Members of the CBC and House Democrats stood together tonight and spoke out. We’re calling on Speaker Ryan to bring Congress back in session and bring gun safety legislation to the House Floor for a vote,” said Rep. Adams.
