Congresswoman Alma S. Adams Statement Following the Override of President Obama’s Veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act
Washington, D.C.-Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (D-NC) released the following statement regarding the vote to override President Obama’s veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act.
“Today, I joined 347 of my colleagues in overriding President Obama’s veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act. This vote received overwhelming bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate. While I respect the President, I had to follow the calls of those who I represent and my conscious. My constituents asked me to provide an avenue for the families of the victims of 9/11 to pursue legal action against foreign sponsors of the terrorist attack that took their loved ones from them. This bill cannot undue the harm to the many families affected by 9/11 but it can provide a small measure of justice for their loss.”
