Congresswoman Alma S. Adams Statements on Hallmark U.S. Supreme Court Decisions

June 27, 2016

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alms S. Adams released the following statements regarding the hallmark U.S. Supreme Court decisions passed down on Thursday in affirmative action case of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin and on President Obama’s Immigration Executive Actions.

Congresswoman Alma S. Adams made following statement on the Supreme Court decision to uphold affirmative action programs at the University of Texas at Austin:

“Education is the great equalizer and this case reaffirms that.

“The Supreme Court decision in the case of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin grants everyone equal access to a quality education. This access will help every student achieve the American dream.

‘I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to ensure that America’s higher-education system is reflective of the diversity of the American people.”

Congresswoman Alma S. Adams made the following statement on the Supreme Court’s 4-4 deadlock decision on President Obama’s Immigration Executive Actions:

“The Supreme Court’s deadlock decision on the President’s Executive Actions on Immigration is a clear and sharp reminder that there is an urgent need for a ninth Justice.

“The decision is frustrating for many who are seeking to earn an honest living, grow the American economy and bring sense to our current immigration system. This decision is also disappointing, as the outcome could have been different if we had a fully functioning court.

‘This is a heartbreaking moment for millions of immigrants who have made this country their home and I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to implement policies that have a positive impact on our immigration system.
