Congresswoman S. Adams’ STEM Prep Act Added to House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer’s Make It In America Plan
WASHINGTON, DC— Today Congresswoman Alma S. Adams’ (NC-12) first bill introduced in Congress, the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Professional Readiness Education Preparation Act or STEM PREP Act, H.R. 922, was added to House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer’s (MD-5) Make It In America plan.
The House Democratic Whip’s Make It In America plan aims to create the best conditions for American businesses to innovate, manufacture, and create jobs right here at home.
Congresswoman Adams’ legislation seeks to bridge the gap in skills and education through the STEM PREP Act, H.R. 922. The legislation would create a competitive grant program to fund career and technical education training within the STEM field.
“I am proud to have the STEM PREP Act, H. R. 922, added to the Make It In America plan and applaud the leadership of House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer for bringing jobs and the economy back to the forefront for discussion. Now more than ever, STEM is an integral part of our economy and will play a large role in creating new jobs in our economy,” said Congresswoman Adams.
“STEM jobs are growing rapidly, and too often employers tell me they have jobs, but no skilled employees to fill them. The STEM PREP Act would fill this gap and create a pipeline of skilled employees to meet employer needs,” said Rep. Adams.
“Rep. Adams’ bill to expand academic and career training in STEM fields is a great example of how Congress can help close the skills gap, one of four action areas of the Make It In America jobs plan,” stated House Democratic Whip Hoyer. “In order to help more of our people make it in today’s economy, we must ensure that they have the in-demand skills that employers are seeking. I look forward to working with Rep. Adams to advance her bill and ensure workers across the country can make it in America.”
