Rep. Adams Amendments Included in Second House Appropriations Bill

June 26, 2019

Washington, DC — Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) offered five amendments to H.R. 3055, the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. All five amendments passed with bipartisan support and will be included in the final House bill.

Congresswoman Adams offered an amendment to increase funding by $1 million to gather data on prosecutorial decision-making processes and outcomes to help stamp out inequities in the criminal justice system that disproportionately impact low-income individuals and people of color.

Another amendment offered by Congresswoman Adams provides an additional $2 million in funding to replace Terminal Air Traffic Control Facilities, providing the modernized equipment and facilities that air traffic controllers need to keep travelers safe.

Congresswoman Adams also offered three amendments to address the affordable housing crisis in Charlotte, and throughout the country. The first amendment increases funding for the Transitional Housing Program for victims of domestic violence by $1 million. The second housing amendment increased funding by $2 million for the tenant-based rental assistance program to assist low-income households with their housing expenses. The final housing amendment, co-sponsored by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) would provide an additional $1 million for public housing for seniors.

"My amendments provide funding for programs and services that will improve the lives of people in the 12th District and throughout the nation," said Congresswoman Adams. "From increasing accountability in our criminal justice system, to making air travel safer, to addressing the affordable housing crisis, my amendments address the needs of everyday Americans, and I am pleased they will be included in the House bill."
