Rep. Adams Announces Record Number of Military Service Academy Appointments from the 12th Congressional District

Charlotte, NCToday, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) announces the appointment of twelve high school students from the 12th Congressional District to attend the United States military service academies. Last year, six students from the 12th District received appointment offers.

"I am proud to announce a record number of appointments to our nation's military service academies form North Carolina's 12th Congressional District," said Congresswoman Adams. "These exceptional students show tremendous passion and commitment to their education and service to our nation. I'm pleased that our District will be well represented and I wish each of them well in their future endeavors."

The following students have received appointments to the military academies: Jordan Graham, Jessie Jenkins, and Andrew LaRocca received appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy; Liam Pickett and Kyle Helmendach received appointments to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy; Jack Osment, Alex Weisker, Trenae Aguilar, and David Batumane Kasanganay II received appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy; and Mark Lawson and Nathaniel Jones Jr. received appointments to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.

Each year, Congresswoman Adams nominates high school students from the 12th District for appointment to a military service academy. Appointees will receive a full scholarship to attend one of our nation's prestigious military institutions of higher learning. In addition to earning a bachelor of science degree, graduating cadets will be required to serve as an officer in the corresponding military branch for 4 to 6 years.

Congresswoman Adams is currently accepting applications from high school students interested in being nominated for an appointment to a military service academy during the 2018-2019 school year. Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
