Rep. Adams Applauds AG Jackson, Joins Calls to Release November SNAP Benefits
WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) released a statement on North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson’s lawsuit to continue funding SNAP benefits after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced they would not be administering SNAP in November.
Congress already allocated roughly $6 billion to the SNAP contingency fund which could fund partial SNAP benefits in November but the USDA refuses to use them, letting the program lapse instead.
“I applaud Attorney General Jeff Jackson for fighting for the 1.4 million North Carolinians who will go hungry if the USDA refuses to fund SNAP,” said Congresswoman Adams. “The decision to withhold SNAP by the Trump administration is not only unlawful, but also a cruel and deliberate attempt to take food away from the people who need it most. North Carolina citizens are not political pawns, and we will not let this administration treat them as hostages.”
“The USDA must release the SNAP funds Congress already authorized. Every day they don’t, they are choosing to let 42 million Americans go hungry. It’s time for the USDA to do its job, fund SNAP, and stop letting the American people suffer because of Trump’s failure to lead,” Adams concluded.
