September 27, 2018

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) released a statement after the House passed a $1.68 billion disaster relief package in the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill that includes Community Development Block Grant appropriations for Hurricane Florence disaster recovery. Rep. Adams joined a letter led by Rep. David E. Price (NC-04) with Members of Congress from North and South Carolina requesting an initial of disaster relief appropriation to support immediate recovery efforts.

"I was proud to lead efforts with Members of Congress from the Carolinas to provide Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery assistance for Hurricane Florence relief efforts. This funding will provide immediate assistance for the millions of North Carolinians affected while we await a comprehensive assessment of the scope of damage to North Carolina.

I have met with the Members of the North Carolina delegation to discuss next steps, and it's clear that additional funding will be required to meet the needs of the communities harmed by this storm. I am fully prepared to continue working with my colleagues to secure the funding needed to support recovery efforts. My prayers are with the families and communities who have lost their loved ones and those who were impacted by this devastating storm."
