Rep. Adams Celebrates Avian Cannon, Local Congressional Art Competition Winner

Cannon’s piece, Scrutiny in the Third, will display at the U.S. Capitol for one year
CHARLOTTE – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. celebrated the five finalists of the student Congressional Art Competition this past Sunday at The Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte, at a reception attended by participating students, their families, teachers, supporters, art experts, and the general public to announce the selections by an independent panel of judges. The winning piece for North Carolina’s 12th Congressional district, Scrutiny in the Third, by Avian Cannon, a senior at Lake Norman Charter School, will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel (no relation) of the U.S. Capitol for the next year, alongside the other 400+ winners in the annual, nationwide event. “This competition encourages and recognizes the rich artistic talents of our nation’s young people, and I’m excited to offer young up-and-coming artists this opportunity to have their artwork acknowledged on a national level,” said Rep. Adams at the event. “I am pleased to submit this piece, Scrutiny in the Third, by Avian Cannon for inclusion in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition.” All the remaining pieces will be on display at The Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte until June 2nd, located at Levine Center for the Arts at 500 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 2820. Thereafter, the two runners up will be on display in Rep. Adams’ office in Washington, DC, the two honorable mentions will be displayed in her district office in Charlotte, and the remainders will be returned to the student artists.
