Rep. Adams Statement on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day Landings

Congresswoman calls for Americans to remember and emulate their example of courage

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. issued the following statement today in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy on D-Day, June 6th, 1944:
“Nelson Mandela once said, ‘Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.’
On June 6th, 1944, American soldiers of the Greatest Generation joined hands with British, Canadian, and Free French to begin the great liberation of Western Europe.
Who but those brave few World War II veterans who remain with us, can comprehend the courage that delivered the greatest triumph in the history of the free world, for democracy over fascism, freedom over slavery, life over death.
May their example inspire us to never cower in the face of fear, but to triumph over it. It is on us, every day, to continue to preserve, protect, defend, and vindicate their sacrifice and their gifts of liberty and justice for all, as long as we live to enjoy them.”
