Rep. Adams Statement on the Paycheck Fairness Act
Washington DC - Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Chairwoman of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, issued the below statement announcing the reintroduction of the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 7). The Paycheck Fairness Act will work to address continuing disparities in women’s pay and is being reintroduced exactly ten years after the signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Paycheck Act by President Barack Obama.
“In my District, the average working woman earns 83 cents for every dollar that a man with the same job makes. This is an unacceptable and discriminatory practice that has yet to be fixed in 2019,” said Congresswoman Adams. “It is common sense. When women are shortchanged, our children, families, and economy are shortchanged. I led the fight in North Carolina for equal pay and am continuing the fight in Congress. Equal pay and fair wages will be my top priority as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections. I stand behind this important piece of legislation. Together, my colleagues and I will ensure equal pay for equal work."
