Rep. Adams Votes to Certify 2024 Election
Congresswoman who served in 2021 recalls anniversary of assault on democracy

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. voted today to certify the 2024 US Presidential election, joining with her colleagues to confirm the results of an election in which Donald Trump was elected to a second term of office. She made the following statement on the certification, and on the fourth anniversary of January 6th, 2021, when then-President Trump’s supporters assaulted the Capitol.
“Four years ago today, then-President Donald Trump fueled baseless claims of a stolen election, inciting rioters who attacked the United States Capitol. They sought to kill the Vice President and disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. Desecrating federal property and threatening lives, they left hundreds injured and several dead. Many still suffer as a result of Donald Trump’s actions on that day, and I vividly remember the horror my staff and I felt.
We also saw the best of our nation that day, in the Capitol Police officers who heroically saved lives, and in members of both parties who spoke up in defense of our democracy. They rejected the attack, certified the votes of the 2020 Presidential election, and sought accountability for those responsible.
Today, those who aided and abetted the January 6th attack are celebrating a return to power. They have shown they will not renounce the politics of insurrection, nor change their loyalties. Therefore, we must not let them change ours. Just as we certified the votes cast on January 6, 2021, we did so again on January 6th, 2025 for the same reason – because the American people will always have the last word.”
President-elect Trump’s election was certified in Congress, and he will be sworn into office on January 20th.
