Rep. Adams Votes to Raise the Minimum Wage

July 18, 2019

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 582, the Raise the Wage Act:

"I have fought for fair wages for working Americans during my entire career in public service. From my time in the State House, where I led the successful effort to raise North Carolina's minimum wage, to Congress, I have been adamant that working hard is not enough if you don't make enough. There are people in North Carolina's 12th District, and across the country, who are working full-time and not earning enough to feed their families. In the wealthiest country in the world, this is absolutely inexcusable."

"Now, as Chair of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, I am proud to have helped push the Raise the Wage Act across the finish line. The bill will increase pay for up to 33 million American workers, including 151,400 people in the 12th District. It is good for workers, good for the economy, and it's the right thing to do."

"For too long, we have accepted a system where the rich get richer, and average Americans work longer and harder just to survive. By passing the Raise the Wage Act, the House of Representatives sends the message strongly and clearly – No one working full-time should live in poverty."
