Rep. Adams on White House Cancelling House Iran Security Briefing

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) released a statement on the White House cancelling the House bipartisan classified member briefing on the ongoing Iran conflict, which was scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 at 3:00 PM ET.
“Cancelling today’s briefings to Congress just proves President Trump is trying to keep Congress and the American people in the dark,” said Congresswoman Adams. “This administration acted unilaterally and without Congressional authorization, intentionally misled our country, and is now failing to answer the questions and concerns our constituents have shared with us. Congress and the American people deserve answers. What is this administration trying to hide?”
Rep. Adams was prepared to address key topics and concerns with staff leading the briefing, including:
- Whether the safety of American citizens, diplomatic personnel, and the 40,000 U.S. troops currently stationed in the Middle East was considered, and future plans for their security.
- The administration’s failure to seek Congressional authorization for their attack.
- The results of the military action and the current state of Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
- Future actions and intentions by the administration in the Middle East.
The briefing was going to be led by leaders of State, Defense, and Intelligence Committee:
- Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence
- John Ratcliffe, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency
- General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
- Christopher Landau, Deputy Secretary of State
- Steve Feinberg, Deputy Secretary of Defense
