Rep. Adams Wins Funding for 12th District Priorities in House Appropriations Bill

June 13, 2019

Washington, DC — Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) offered two amendments to H.R. 2740, the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, Defense, State and Foreign Operations, and Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act. Both amendments passed with broad bipartisan support and will be included in the House bill.

Congresswoman Adams' amendments fund programs that are important to North Carolina's 12th District. One of the proposed amendments provides an additional $3 million to the Children and Families Services Programs account to fund Community Research Centers (CRCs), like the CRC in Mecklenburg County. These Centers help administer vital social programs such as Medicaid, SNAP and WIC, making federal programs accessible to those who need them.

The second amendment offered by Congresswoman Adams provides funding for the National Center for College Students with Disabilities, located in Huntersville, North Carolina. The National Center provides technical assistance, outreach and resources to improve the retention and graduation rates of the 20 percent of college students who have a disability. Without this additional funding, the Center will be forced to close in June of 2020, leaving thousands of college students with disabilities without support.

"Community Research Centers and the National Center for College Students with Disabilities are programs that help connect Americans with the federal programs and resources they need," said Congresswoman Adams. "These are services that people in the 12th District and throughout the nation rely on. I am proud to stand up and fight for programs that improve the lives of the American people and am pleased that my amendments will be included in the House bill."
