Rep. Alma Adams Celebrates President Biden’s Materializing Vision for America
After Energetic Speech by President Joe Biden, Rep. Adams Looks Forward to Helping him Finish the Job for American Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (D, NC-12) attended President Biden’s State of the Union address last night with her guest, Mecklenburg County’s elected Sherriff Garry L McFadden.
Rep. Adams was enthralled by the President’s energetic speech, in which he laid out competing visions for America. Rep. Adams strongly supports his work to date to put America back on its feet following the pandemic, building the American economy from the middle out and bottom up, defending democracy at home and abroad, and fighting for human rights.
“President Biden knocked it out of the park. By focusing on our health, our well-being, and our basic needs first, President Biden has created a growing worker-centered economy,” said Rep. Adams. “He’s rebuilding our economy from the bottom up, taking on corporations and foreign competitors, going after price gouging and fighting for working families like the one that raised him. His vision for America is materializing. You can’t work hard if you’re unhealthy, and you can’t be healthy if you’re hungry. I’m ready to keep fighting with him, to ensure all families have enough to eat, the opportunity to work and find prosperity, their human rights respected, and a democracy that serves them.

"There is still more work to do, but with President Biden and House Democrats in charge, we can finish the job.”
In particular, Rep. Adams celebrates these signature achievements by President Biden and supports his efforts to expand upon them:
Blockbuster economic growth with historic stimulus and the monthly Child Tax Credit that cut child poverty in half.
A $35 cap on insulin for seniors, $99 cap for 90%+ of Americans, and a $2000 cap on out-of-pocket Medicare costs.
Record enrollments in the Affordable Care Act
Massive infrastructure and clean energy investments to grow our economy, including an expansive addition to Charlotte International Airport (CLT).
More housing being built than at any point in 50 years, resulting in declining rent in Greater Charlotte.
The racial wealth gap and the unemployment rate are the lowest they have been in decades.
15 million new jobs, including 800,000 in manufacturing.
Conserving 30% of American land and water, cutting emissions in half by 2030.
Creating the first Office of Gun Violence Prevention, of which Rep. Adams’ guest Sherriff McFadden is a part.
She is also ready to continue fighting to raise the federal minimum wage and teacher pay; pass the equality act and the freedom to vote act; and support bipartisan immigration reform, among other initiatives.
Sheriff McFadden, who joined Rep. Adams as her guest for the State of the Union, was also moved by the President’s words.
“At last night’s State of the Union address, the welcoming energy was palpable. Congresswoman Alma Adams’ staff introduced me to former and current lawmakers and made me feel as more than a guest, but as a valued part of this extraordinary event. An unbelievable night, Rep. Adams is the ultimate host,” said Sheriff Garry McFadden. “President Biden covered all the issues that are plaguing America, including gun violence and immigration. I felt proud to be an American and an even prouder leader in my capacity.”
Sheriff McFadden’s attendance underscored Rep. Adams support for law enforcement in her district, and in particular, Sheriff McFadden’s approach toward reducing youth violence through community engagement and reduced access to weapons. Rep. Adams was delighted to hear President Biden reference the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, of which Sheriff McFadden is a member.
