Rep. Alma Adams Statement Following Vice President Harris’s Visit to Charlotte

January 11, 2024

VP Harris announced $285 million investment in mental health initiatives for schools nationwide, $12 million in North Carolina

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Thursday, January 11, 2024) – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) released the following statement following Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to Charlotte:

“I’m so thankful Vice President Harris came to visit Charlotte today. Were I not required in Washington for votes and committee work, I would have been glad to host her myself.

The announcement today by Vice President Harris is outstanding news for our schools, faculty & students. It means $12 million in mental health investments in North Carolina alone, which will help us hire 300 mental health professionals to keep our children and grandchildren safe and help them thrive. Having a White House that appreciates the importance of both mental health services and gun safety - not just one or the other - is a Godsend.

From the economy, to clean energy, to our rights, to health and safety, the Biden-Harris Administration continues delivering real, tangible wins to North Carolina. Come back anytime, Madame Vice President.”
