Rep. Alma Adams Statement on Today's Joint Session of Congress
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement on the certification of the Electoral College votes from the fifty states and the District of Columbia:
“The quixotic Republican scheme to object to the Electoral College vote today is a distraction,” said Adams. “It distracts from the 350,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19, and the tens of millions of families that desperately need assistance. It’s a distraction from Donald Trump’s continued attempts at election fraud and his calls to overturn a free and fair election. It’s a distraction from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s inability to deliver for the American people when they need help most. The job of Congress today is to count the votes and enable the peaceful transfer of power; not to undermine our Democratic process.”
“America doesn’t need sore losers in this moment of crisis – it needs leadership, and that’s why we elected Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and why Georgia elected Senators Raphael Warnock and John Ossoff.”
Congresswoman Alma Adams represents North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District, which includes Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Prior to her election in 2014, she served in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing Greensboro for 20 years.
