WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) and Congressman Jeff Jackson (NC-14) secured $4.2 million in federal funding for local projects in Mecklenburg County.

The funding will support 3 projects across the county: Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s New Main Library in Uptown Charlotte, Nourish Up’s New Hunger Hub of Hope Food Bank and the Umbrella Center to support survivors of domestic violence, abuse, and human trafficking.

“Securing funds for the community to use is an important part of the work we do in Congress,” saidRep. Adams. “Thanks to the community projects Rep. Jackson and I supported together, we’ve delivered over $4 million for a new foodbank; a newer, modernized library to provide helpful tools for families; and a safe refuge for abused women to get a fresh start. As a result, families will be better fed, residents will have access to greater educational resources, and survivors of domestic violence will find shelter and resources for a stronger, safer, brighter, independent future.”

“This funding will go directly where it can have the most impact in our community. It will support organizations that help domestic violence survivors get assistance and solutions for healthcare, employment, and housing; ensure folks can put food on the table; and make sure our libraries continue to be a gathering space for all Charlotteans,” said Rep. Jeff Jackson. “I’m proud to have worked closely with Rep. Adams to deliver for the Charlotte community.”

Here is the list of projects and funding:

  • $2,500,000 for The Umbrella Center to help domestic violence survivors
  • $850,000 for Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s New Main Library in Uptown Charlotte
  • $850,000 for Nourish Up’s New Hunger Hub of Hope Food Bank
