CHARLOTTE – Student artists who participated in the Congressional Art Competition will have their work displayed in a two-week exhibition at The Mint Museum Uptown. Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) will host the exhibition opening for residents of North Carolina’s 12th congressional district, and announce the winner of the annual Congressional Art Competition on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at an official event from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Mint Museum Uptown is located at Levine Center for the Arts at 500 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 28202.

The five finalists for the prestigious artwork competition will be recognized by Rep. Adams during the program, and all remaining submissions from the district will be installed in the Star Gallery of the Mint Museum Uptown, where they will be on display for two weeks. An independent panel of judges will determine the winner, two runners up, and two honorable mentions.

"The arts are not mere expressions; they challenge our perceptions, expand our minds, foster critical thinking, and make us human,” said Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. “A community cannot survive without a healthy arts environment, and neither can we. I’m grateful to the students who submitted their pieces for the Congressional Art Competition, and I look forward to lifting up their creative works in The Mint Museum, in my office, and in the halls of Congress.”

"The Mint is committed to exhibiting student art and is proud to showcase works by finalists in the Congressional Art Competition," says Todd Herman, Ph.D., president and CEO at The Mint Museum. "We are grateful for Congresswoman Alma Adams' support of the arts and recognition of the artistic achievements of these talented high school students."

The winning piece will be showcased at a Winner’s Celebration at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. on June 27th, and for the next year, it will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol, alongside the winners from the over 400 other districts around the country. The two runners up will be on display in Rep. Adams’ Washington, DC office, and the two honorable mentions will be placed in her district office in Charlotte. All remaining submissions from the district will be installed in the Star Gallery of The Mint Museum Uptown, where they will be on display through June 2, 2024.

This event is free to attend. Attendees can RSVP to Julian.Holland@mail.house.gov.
