[Video] Congresswoman Adams Rallies Support for Passage of Voting Rights Legislation

Adams urges Senators to do whatever it takes to pass key voting bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released a statement and a video calling on the United States Senate to move forward on voting rights legislation. Just now, the House passed the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, which will ensure every American has equal freedom to make their voice and vote heard in our democracy. The bill now heads to the Senate.

The video is available on YouTube and for download.

"Our sacred right to vote is the right from which every other right in a democracy follows. It's the most basic way to hold our policy makers accountable, because sometimes you can't change policy without changing policy makers,"said Adams. "However, that right is under attack. Gerrymandering cracks and packs the political power of minority voters, and unfair election laws target us with surgical precision. Unfortunately, as we've seen over the past year with attacks on the US Capitol and democracy itself, there are those who are willing to ignore the results of free and fair elections. That would be a dangerous step backward, and that's why it's more important than ever that we secure voting rights now and for future generations.

"Let's move forward: let's pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act and give the power to hold politicians accountable back to the people," concluded Adams.
