The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on the Judiciary want to censure President Trump for his remarks denigrating Haiti, El Salvador, and African countries. "We were deeply disturbed and offended by President Trump's remarks regarding Haiti and African countries," U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) and Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jerold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said at a news conference on Jan. 18.

The ruling came late Tuesday from a panel of three federal judges: North Carolina's congressional district maps were found, yet again, to be unconstitutional.

District maps were redrawn in 2011 after the release of 2010 census data.

For many states, the influence of a Republican-dominated legislatures was felt in the redistricting process. But lawsuits on redistricting have been filed in 38 states so far.

North Carolina's 13 congressional districts are headed for redrawing.


A panel of federal judges struck down the state's 2016 district lines as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander and ordered the General Assembly to fix them by Jan. 29. The court also plans to employ a special master to draw an alternative remedial plan, to be enacted before the 2018 congressional elections.

U.S. Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), David Perdue (R-GA), and Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced the HBCU Capital Financing Improvement Act (S.2268), a bill which will help improve the financial health of some of our country's most critical higher education institutions.

Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) introduced the companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives last year. Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) are original cosponsors of the Senate bill.

There is a sense among many presidents at historically black colleges and universities that the Trump Administration, while not overly friendly to HBCUs by initiative or policy, has been a salve against what many expected would happen in a fury of budget cuts and racism-driven reforms.
