Charlotte, N.C.—Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) led a letter, signed by members of the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, to President Trump inquiring about the progress of the White House HBCU Initiative (Initiative). In February, President Trump signed an Executive Order that would move the Initiative from the Department of Education to the Office of the President. To date, this move has not taken place.
Bipartisan HBCU Caucus co-chair Rep. Alma Adams (NC-12) led the passage of an amendment with fellow caucus member Reps. Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) to H.R. 3219 the Make America Secure Appropriations Act. Passage of the amendment allocates $40 million to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) program within the Department of Defense (DoD), a 54% increase over the President's FY18 proposed authorized level and $7 million above current levels.

Congresswoman Adams held an exhibit and competition at the Harvey Gantt Center on Sunday, May 21st. During the reception, 25 pieces of artwork submitted by high school students in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District were displayed and judged by three local artists: Leonor Demori, Neisler, Matt Hooker and Justin Surgeon.
