"Mr. Speaker I come to the floor of the US House to pay tribute to the memory of Shanda LaVie McAllister-- native North Carolinian, admired daughter, sister and friend who departed this life suddenly on December 12, 2014 in Cumberland County where she lived and worked as a teacher.

WASHINGTON, DC— Today Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) was sworn in to serve a full 2 year term as the U.S. Representative of the 12^th Congressional District of North Carolina. Congresswoman Adams won a special election and the general election in November 2014. She was sworn in on November 12, 2014 to finish the term of former Congressman Mel Watt and today was sworn in for a full 2 year term in the 114^th Congress. Adams is the first woman to represent the district, the second African-American woman to represent North Carolina in the U.S.
