Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement on the passing of her mother, Mattie B. Thomas, who passed away this morning:

"It is with profound sorrow that I share with you the passing of my best friend of 69 years, my mother, Mattie B. Thomas. I was fortunate enough to celebrate my mother's 90^th birthday with her on Sunday and to be by her side during her last hours on this earth. From birth, she has been my backbone, my cheerleader, my support system – my ‘shero'.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced a hotline for veterans throughout North Carolina's 12^th Congressional District. The hotline features a telephone number veterans can call to receive legislative updates as well as an email address veterans can contact to request casework assistance. The hotline will be operated by Congresswoman Adams' staff who cover veterans issues.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced House passage of her amendment to the FY 16 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Congresswoman Adams' amendment recognizes the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on service members and their families. It also recommends changes to the Department of Defense's (DOD) handling of services for members with PTSD. Congresswoman Adams' amendment passed the House on May 15, 2015.
