Local issues in the District will always be the primary concern of Congresswoman Adams. She takes her duties as the U.S. Representative of North Carolina's 12th Congressional District very seriously. Whether she is securing federal funding for district schools or health care institutions, or fighting for a living wage and affordable taxes for her constituents, she will always put the needs of the 12th District first, and be its advocate in the House of Representatives.

Charlotte – Today is Congresswoman Alma Adams' 74th Birthday, and an occasion to celebrate a landmark year in her public service career. In addition to continuing her leadership role in Congress on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Adams has taken on a new role as the co-chair of the Black Maternal Health Caucus. Adams continued to lead on Affordable Housing, Hunger, and Health Care issues as well.
Washington – Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) announced her letter calling for Congressional oversight of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Due to COVID-19, millions of America's small businesses were required to halt operations and lay off employees. PPP is a forgivable loan that was designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll.
Charlotte – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12), as well as her Charlotte and Washington offices, spent the month of April focused on combatting the health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Congresswoman Adams demonstrated national leadership on issues including workplace protections, black maternal health, and food security.

COVID-19
Washington – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) responded to the Trump Administration's decision to amend the major disaster order for North Carolina to include Individual Assistance limited to the Crisis Counseling Program. FEMA can also approve Individual Assistance through other vital programs which would help North Carolinians weather this pandemic, including Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA):
Washington – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12), Vice Chair of the Committee on Agriculture,continued her national leadership on food security last week with legislation, letters, and local advocacy aimed at solving the ongoing hunger crisis in the 12th District, which has been exacerbated by COVID-19.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Kamala D. Harris (D-CA) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), along with Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), on Thursday announced the introduction of the Closing the Meal Gap Act of 2020, legislation that expands and strengthens Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for vulnerable community members that are struggling to make ends meet.
