Local issues in the District will always be the primary concern of Congresswoman Adams. She takes her duties as the U.S. Representative of North Carolina's 12th Congressional District very seriously. Whether she is securing federal funding for district schools or health care institutions, or fighting for a living wage and affordable taxes for her constituents, she will always put the needs of the 12th District first, and be its advocate in the House of Representatives.

Washington, D.C. – A coordinated effort between United Way of Central Carolinas (UWCC) and local nonprofits, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D., and political leaders has resulted in $628,068 of Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funding for Mecklenburg County. The funding comes after the disappointing news in May that Mecklenburg County no longer met the established thresholds. The loss of EFSP funding would have deprived local organizations that provide food and shelter for Mecklenburg County's most vulnerable residents.

Washington, D.C– Yesterday, Congresswoman Adams sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on behalf of nine Mecklenburg hunger and housing organizations. The letter challenges the criteria used by FEMA that determines the allocation of their Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding (EFSP). Earlier this year, FEMA rejected Mecklenburg's funding request. This resulted in $500,000 in cuts to vital local programing.

The internship, launched in 2016, welcomes a student from Johnson C. Smith University and North Carolina A&T State University to Washington, D.C. to intern for four weeks in both Reps. Adams' and Walker's offices.
Washington, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Adams' team will welcome 12th District residents to the first monthly Cornelius Satellite Office Hours from 3:00-5:00pm. Beginning today, the office hours will occur on the first Thursday of every month from 3:00-5:00pm in the Mayor's Chambers at the Cornelius Town Hall.
On Monday, June 4th Congresswoman Adams and Cornelius Mayor Woody Washam launched the new office hours by welcoming constituents to the Cornelius Town Hall for a meet and greet.
