Charlotte – During Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17),Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) led a week of advocacy for Black moms. The overall maternal mortality rate in the United States rose sharply over the past three decades, and Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts.
Washington – Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) introduced the Kira Johnson Act as part of the Black Maternal Momnibus of 2020, a package of bills addressing the maternal health crisis. Today, on the last day of Black Maternal Health Week, she is urging her colleagues in the House to pass this legislation.
