In 2016, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) lifted 3.6 million people out of poverty, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau. This is one of many measures of SNAPs effectiveness as an anti-poverty program. The program fed over 42 million people in FY 2017.

As a survivor of both colon and breast cancer, I recently represented Charlotte on Capitol Hill, traveling to Washington, D.C. with more than 700 of my fellow ACS CAN volunteers from across the country to let my voice be heard and to urge Congress to make cancer a national priority.

The visit included a tour of the facility and an opportunity to learn about groninger USA's dual manufacturing apprenticeship program started in 2014 to address the skills gap challenging many local manufacturers. groninger is known for manufacturing closing and liquid filling equipment for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
