About the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2020

Background

In the richest nation on earth, moms are dying at the highest rate in the developed world – and the rate is rising. For as dire as the situation is for all women, the crisis is most severe for Black moms, who are dying at 3 to 4 times the rate of their white counterparts.

Lived Experiences

For every harrowing statistic, there is a tragic lived experience: stories like Kira Johnson's, whose husband Charles Johnson IV testified before Congress to describe how Kira - a vibrant, healthy Black woman who spoke four languages, lived in China, and ran several companies - died while giving birth to their second son, Langston.
