Charlotte – During Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17),Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) led a week of advocacy for Black moms. The overall maternal mortality rate in the United States rose sharply over the past three decades, and Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts. Adams' advocacy included interviews, editorials, radio appearances, and a Women's Symposium focused on Black Maternal Health during COVID-19.
