Charlotte, NC –Following Memorial Day, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), Vice-Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, today announced the introduction of new legislation aimed at helping more veterans become small business owners. The Veteran's Small Business Tax Credit Act of 2017 would provide a tax credit of up to $12,000 for veteran-owned businesses during their first two years of operation.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a former art professor at Bennett College and member of the Congressional Arts Caucus, today announced the winners of the 2017 Congressional art competition. Congresswoman Adams held an exhibit and competition at the Harvey Gantt Center on Sunday, May 21st. During the reception, 25 pieces of artwork submitted by high school students in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District were displayed and judged by three local artists: Leonor Demori, Neisler, Matt Hooker and Justin Surgeon.

Washington, D.C.—The Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus hosted a viewing of Stanley Nelson's film Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities in conjunction with the National Endowment for the Humanities. Mr. Nelson's film, which chronicles the history and culture of HBCUs, first aired at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and will air publicly on PBS in 2018.
