Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement in honor of the 50^th anniversary of the Higher Education Act (HEA), which was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on November 8, 1965:

"Since 1965, the Higher Education Act has helped level the playing field for millions of students across our nation. As the largest authorized federal source of funding for student aid, this legislation has helped make college more accessible and more affordable.

Greensboro, NC – Ahead of Veterans Day, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Small Business Committee, today announced the introduction of new legislation aimed at helping more veterans become small business owners. The Veteran's Small Business Tax Credit Act of 2015 would provide a tax credit of up to $12,000 for veteran-owned businesses during their first two years of operation.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Anthony White Jr. and the entire Winston-Salem State University community. It saddens me that just one day after the university celebrated 123 years and the installation of its new chancellor, we are faced with such a tragic loss of life.

Adams (NC-12) voted with 265 other Democratic and Republican Members of Congress to pass H.R. 1314, a bipartisan budget agreement that secures equal funding increases in defense and domestic initiatives over the next two years. The bipartisan budget agreement passed yesterday enables crucial investments in America's future after years of sequester cuts.

Washington, DC- Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced $25 million in federal funding for the City of Charlotte and the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The federal grant was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant program and will be used to fund the Charlotte Gateway Station Track and Safety Improvements project.
