Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today joined U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Luiz V. Gutiérrez (D- Ill.), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.), John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) and Judy Chu (D-Calif.) to introduce the Fair Day in Court for Kids Act, new legislation to protect children and other vulnerable groups in immigration proceedings by ensuring access to counsel, legal orientation programs, and case management services.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today voted against legislation to override the President’s veto of H.R. 3762. This legislation would undermine critical components of the Affordable Care Act and would defund Planned Parenthood. This is the 63rd vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, and the 12th vote to attack women’s health care in the 114th Congress. With a 241-186 vote, the House failed to override the veto.

“Today marks the start of Black History Month – a time to celebrate the historical and cultural contributions African-Americans have made to this great nation. In honoring those contributions, we must remember the sacrifices and bravery of those who shaped the civil rights movement.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) called on House leadership to make the summer meals program a priority in the forthcoming child nutrition reauthorization. The summer meals program has not been updated since 1975. Currently, only 18 percent of children who receive free or reduced meals at school actually receive a summer meal, leaving many students to go hungry during the summer months. To make matters worse, 30 percent of low-income children live in communities that are foreclosed from the summer meal program.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) is joining Congressmen Robert Pittenger (NC-09) and Patrick McHenry (NC-10) in a friendly wager on the Carolina Panthers-Seattle Seahawks NFL playoff game with Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-07), whose district includes Seattle. Following the Panthers’ defeat of the Seattle Seahawks, Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-07) will present Representatives Adams, Pittenger and McHenry with a basket of Washington State treats, including salmon and Theo’s chocolate.
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), cosponsored the recently introduced H. Res. 585, legislation to encourage and promote a cooperative effort among states along the Interstate 73 corridor that would be beneficial to its development. The resolution is sponsored by Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia). In addition to Congresswoman Adams, the legislation is cosponsored by Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-Virginia), Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia), Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-Virginia), and Congressman Tom Rice (R-South Carolina).
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), Ranking member of the Small Business Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations introduced the Small and Disadvantaged Business Enhancement Act, legislation to expand oversight over the government purchase card system. The bill also includes a provision that ensures that all small business contracting programs are under the purview of the office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today applauded President Obama's announcement to take executive action to prevent gun violence in America. Studies show that every day when background checks are used, more than 170 felons, 50 domestic abusers, and nearly 20 fugitives are prevented from buying a gun. Currently, background checks are not required for those purchasing a gun from a gun show, through the internet, or through a classified ad.
