Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), cosponsored the recently introduced H. Res. 585, legislation to encourage and promote a cooperative effort among states along the Interstate 73 corridor that would be beneficial to its development. The resolution is sponsored by Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia). In addition to Congresswoman Adams, the legislation is cosponsored by Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-Virginia), Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia), Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-Virginia), and Congressman Tom Rice (R-South Carolina).
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), Ranking member of the Small Business Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations introduced the Small and Disadvantaged Business Enhancement Act, legislation to expand oversight over the government purchase card system. The bill also includes a provision that ensures that all small business contracting programs are under the purview of the office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization.

Studies show that every day when background checks are used, more than 170 felons, 50 domestic abusers, and nearly 20 fugitives are prevented from buying a gun. Currently, background checks are not required for those purchasing a gun from a gun show, through the internet, or through a classified ad.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams' (NC-12) legislation to name a Winston-Salem post office after Dr. Maya Angelou, passed out of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee by unanimous consent. The legislation, H.R. 3735, would rename the Center City post office located at 200 Town Run Lane in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to that of the Maya Angelou Memorial Post Office.

Maloney (NY-12) and Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) today applauded a new provision of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which will help prevent dating and relationship violence. The provision, included in the bill at the urging of the members, is part of a grant program to promote safe and healthy students.

Adams (NC-12) today voted with 358 of her Democratic and Republican colleagues in the House to adopt the conference report that reauthorizes highway, bridge, transportation safety, and public transit projects for the next five years. The measure provides $281 billion in guaranteed funding for these programs over these five years. Established in 2013, the Congressional App Challenge is a national competition that allows high school students from across the county to create and exhibit their software application, or "app" for mobile, tablet or computer devices. When workers change jobs, many choose to cash out their retirement savings and start over with a new savings plan at their new job.
