Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement on the Randall Kerrick trial:

"I was deeply troubled by the killing of Jonathan Ferrell and have been following the Randall Kerrick trial closely. Charlotte has been swift in their prosecution of officer Kerrick and I hope they move with the same haste in deciding to retry this case. The case needs to be retried, and justice served.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced a $11,470,826 federal grant for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The federal funding was allocated through the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and will be used to replace and rehabilitate the airport's taxiways and runways. The funding will also be used to purchase new aircraft fire and rescue vehicles; to update the airport master plan; and to reimburse the airport for additional land purchased for airport development.

­Thomasville, NC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) held several events in Thomasville on Tuesday, August 18th. Congresswoman Adams' first visit was to Conrad farm, a family farm owned and operated by Marillyn and Arthur Lee Conrad who also run the Thomasville Farmers Market. During Congresswoman Adams' visit, the critical role local farms play in improving food access and combating hunger in the District were discussed as part of Congresswoman Adams' hunger initiative. The Conrad's also discussed issues small farmers face.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced $100 million in federal funding for the Blue Line Extension Project in Charlotte. The grant was allocated through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and is continued funding for the construction of the 9.4 mile LYNX Blue Line Extension project.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced that she is currently traveling with House Democrats in Israel for an educational working trip. Congresswoman Adams and 21 other Democratic members, including House leadership, are in Israel to learn more about the country and key issues impacting the U.S. and Israel relationship. Members have been on the trip since August 3rd and will return on August 11th.

Washington, DC – On the 50th anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today sent a letter urging North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory to expand Medicaid in North Carolina. Through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), states across the country were able to expand Medicaid coverage for those with incomes under 133 percent of the federal poverty level. Twenty-two states, including North Carolina, refused to expand coverage, preventing more than 319,000 North Carolinians from receiving quality and affordable health insurance.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced $3,574,061 in federal funding for Greensboro, North Carolina. The funding was allocated through four U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant programs and will be used to support housing initiatives to help those in need.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced three federal grants totaling $1,798,241 for the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC). The federal funding was allocated through the National Science Foundation (NSF) and will be used to carry out a research project to study the development of oat fiber, to fund research into training workers for the advanced manufacturing engineering industry, and to fund student travel to an international research conference in Germany.
