Washington, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) announced she will return to work this week following a doctor-mandated absence while she is still recovering from surgery. Adams was given strict orders to reduce her workload and limit activity until she is fully released by her doctor.

"Thank you for your support and well wishes during my recovery," said Congresswoman Adams. "I look forward to returning to Capitol Hill this week to continue working on behalf of the people of the 12th District."

Despite the fact that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) provide sound educational opportunities to promising students, smaller endowments, lower levels of federal investment, and fewer alumni giving have created a funding deficit across many of these institutions.

North Carolina's 13 congressional districts are headed for redrawing.


A panel of federal judges struck down the state's 2016 district lines as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander and ordered the General Assembly to fix them by Jan. 29. The court also plans to employ a special master to draw an alternative remedial plan, to be enacted before the 2018 congressional elections.

U.S. Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), David Perdue (R-GA), and Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced the HBCU Capital Financing Improvement Act (S.2268), a bill which will help improve the financial health of some of our country's most critical higher education institutions.

Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) introduced the companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives last year. Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) are original cosponsors of the Senate bill.

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) released the following statement ahead of the vote on the GOP Tax Scam conference report today:

"This tax scam is a nightmare for Mecklenburg families and I will not support it," said Congresswoman Adams. "It raises taxes on 86 million hardworking Americans, endangers state and local budgets, explodes the deficit, gives 83% of the tax cut to the wealthiest 1% and corporations, strips 13 million Americans of their healthcare, and ransacks Medicare to pay for it. It's a sham."
