Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee and Subcommittee on Higher Education today announced more than $1.6 million in federal funding for six colleges and universities in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Education's TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program and will be used to provide services to foster retention and enhance graduation rates for disadvantaged, low-income and first generation college students.

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, today voted against H.R. 5, the Student Success Act. This Republican legislation strips education funding and weakens protections for the most underserved students. The legislation passed the House of Representatives today on a party line vote of 218 to 213.

Greensboro, N.C. – Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) and the U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan today met with presidents, chancellors, and representatives from North Carolina's 12th Congressional District's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The purpose of the round table was to hear directly from local HBCUs about the issues impacting their schools.

The Bipartisan Congressional HBCU Caucus' mission is to highlight and address unique challenges that HBCUs face; and to make sure their needs are heard and recognized on Capitol Hill. The Bipartisan Congressional HBCU Caucus is an official caucus approved by the Committee on House Administration in the 114th Congress.

Charlotte, North Carolina – Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) kicked off Undercover Congresswoman, a series of tours highlighting companies that provide career opportunities for local community college graduates. The Congresswoman went undercover as a student at Central Piedmont Community College, one of the largest community colleges in the 12th District.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) along with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30), Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4), and Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (OH-11) introduced her first bill, the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Professional Readiness Education Preparation Act or STEM PREP Act, H.R. 922. The legislation would create a competitive grant program to fund career and technical education training within the STEM field.
