Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after President Trump signed an Executive Order that undercuts the Affordable Care Act.
In 2016, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) lifted 3.6 million people out of poverty, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau. This is one of many measures of SNAPs effectiveness as an anti-poverty program. The program fed over 42 million people in FY 2017.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representatives Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12), Nydia Velazquez (NY-7), and Jim McGovern (MA-2) – Ranking Member of the Nutrition Subcommittee of the House Agriculture Committee – sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting additional nutrition assistance for the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands following Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Congress needs to close Medicare loophole
We all know someone who has heard the words "you have cancer," and many of us have fought the disease ourselves. As a survivor of both colon and breast cancer, I recently represented Charlotte on Capitol Hill, traveling to Washington, D.C. with more than 700 of my fellow ACS CAN volunteers from across the country to let my voice be heard and to urge Congress to make cancer a national priority.
Charlotte, N.C.—On National Manufacturing Day, Rep. Adams made her fifth stop on the #MadeInMecklenburg Tour with a visit to groninger USA, LLC in Charlotte. The visit included a tour of the facility and an opportunity to learn about groninger USA's dual manufacturing apprenticeship program started in 2014 to address the skills gap challenging many local manufacturers. groninger is known for manufacturing closing and liquid filling equipment for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Vice Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, led a letter, signed by nine Vice-Ranking members, to Congressional leadership calling for a bipartisan bicameral investigation into data breaches. Their call comes on the heels of the Equifax and Yahoo data breaches that have compromised billions of people's information globally. This is the first time Vice Ranking Members have united to address an issue.
