Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Higher Education Act (HEA), which was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on November 8, 1965:
"Since 1965, the Higher Education Act has helped level the playing field for millions of students across our nation. As the largest authorized federal source of funding for student aid, this legislation has helped make college more accessible and more affordable.
Greensboro, NC – Ahead of Veterans Day, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Small Business Committee, today announced the introduction of new legislation aimed at helping more veterans become small business owners. The Veteran's Small Business Tax Credit Act of 2015 would provide a tax credit of up to $12,000 for veteran-owned businesses during their first two years of operation.

"Since 2009, the Export-Import Bank has supported 1.3 million private sector jobs. In the 12th District alone, from 2007 to 2014, more than 28 companies, 800 jobs and more than $123 million in exports were supported by the Export-Import Bank.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) a member of the House Small Business Committee and Ranking member of the Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations today announced her co-sponsorship of H.R. 3132, emergency legislation that would raise the lending cap for the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) 7(a) program. SBA's 7(a) program is set to reach a statutory lending cap as early as July 28th.

Washington, DC – The U.S. House today passed H.R. 1734, Improving Coal Combustion Residuals Regulation Act of 2015. Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) introduced an amendment to H.R. 1734 that would have required regular water-well testing as well as the creation of a public website containing up-to-date water quality information. The amendment also required the owner or operator of coal ash ponds to provide access to another source of drinking water within 24 hours, if water is found to be contaminated.
