Washington, DC – Today, during Mental Health Month, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) reintroduced the Long-term InVestment in Education for Wellness (LIVE Well) Act. The LIVE Well Act allows U.S. Department of Agriculture school and community-based nutrition education programs to allow the inclusion of eating disorder prevention curriculum and screenings.

Adams (NC-12) and Mark Walker (NC-6) introduced the bipartisan Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act to ensure continued funding for Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). A companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Senators Doug Jones (D-AL) and Tim Scott (R-SC).

The week aims to raise awareness about the Black maternal health crisis in the United States.

Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), Chairwoman of the Education and Labor Subcommittee on Workforce Protections sent a letter to Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary R. Alexander Acosta asking to extend the comment period for three recent DOL proposals on minimum wage and overtime pay exemptions, regular rate, joint employer liability under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswomen Alma Adams (NC -12) and Lauren Underwood (IL-14) launched the Black Maternal Health Caucus to improve black maternal health outcomes. The United States has the worst maternal death rates in the developed world, at 18 death per 100,00 live births. The maternal mortality rate is alarmingly higher among black women, at 40 deaths per 100,000 live births.
