Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) released a statement after the House passed a $1.68 billion disaster relief package in the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill that includes Community Development Block Grant appropriations for Hurricane Florence disaster recovery. Rep. Adams joined a letter led by Rep. David E. Price (NC-04) with Members of Congress from North and South Carolina requesting an initial of disaster relief appropriation to support immediate recovery efforts.

Washington, D.C.— Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12), Co-chair of the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, introduced legislation to reauthorize and bolster important Title III line-items for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). The Strengthening Minority-Serving Institutions Act would increase mandatory funding levels from a combined $255 million to $300 million for MSIs and extend the appropriation indefinitely.

Charlotte, NC - "Hurricane Florence has officially made landfall in North Carolina and is already causing major flooding and devastation along the coast. The storm is projected to release over ten inches of rain in Charlotte, triggering life threatening flood conditions in Mecklenburg. I urge all North Carolinians and residents of the 12th District to remain safe today and throughout the duration of this storm. It is critical that all residents prepare emergency kits, remain inside or visit a shelter, and have an emergency evacuation plan prepared.
